Reaction to tonight's terrorist attack in JerusalemI’m new to this whole “news reporting” thing. I had a great article all about the security barrier written, edited and ready to be posted. It high-lighted some of the positives and negatives of the building of the barrier. I think it was a fairly balanced piece of journalism. The article talked about Israeli democracy and how great I think it is when Arabs and Jews can work together to successfully petition the High Court to move the barrier. Blah, blah, blah.

I hope you don’t expect a balanced piece of journalism any more. Not after tonight. Maybe next week I’ll re-write the article, but for now, I’ll tell you that I don’t give a damn about the Palestinians suffering on the other side. Not one tiny iota.

Tonight a Palestinian terrorist took a machine gun into a rabbinical seminary in Jerusalem, shot up the place and murdered eight people. EIGHT INNOCENT PEOPLE. They were studying Judaism’s holy books. They are some of the only people EXEMPT from serving in the army. They have NOTHING to do with any of the suffering that is happening to the Palestinians. This wasn’t revenge. This was pure anti-Israel and anti-Jew hatred. And there was celebrations taking place all across the Palestinian territories. What kind of people celebrate when others die?

I have many mean, horrible thoughts running through my head, about revenge, about the army going back into Gaza and ridding the world of these terrorists, etc. I am trying hard not to write those thoughts here. No matter what terrible thoughts I might have, I am sure about one thing. The army will continue to root out terrorists. But they won’t be taking revenge. And they sure as hell won’t be going into a school and shooting it up for fun. And, on the very slim, tiny, off chance that an accidental tragedy happened, Israelis would mourn the innocent instead of celebrating in the streets.

UPDATE: Take a look at what other people are saying about last night’s terror attack. Blogs of Zion gives a photo overview of the current situation. An article in Jewschool sums up the situation with some important links. The Big Falafel talks about the situation in Sderot (where rockets continue to land daily) and tells you what you can do to help.

Shira, i can understand what you are feeling right now as in my country we have witnessed the same tragedy many times. You are right not to give a damn about the Palestinians suffering (on the other side)of your country but not giving a damn is what makes things worse. this is what We do when someone dies in Pakistan and they do the same (on the other side) when people die here.

i am so pissed of with that kinda attitudes people posses because this is not helping nobody. You not giving a damn and people on the other side of your country feeling the same will only continue the miserable life you, me and many more in (other) parts of the world are facing. And please pay attention to the word (other) that's appearing again and again in our conversation just because YOU used it once. THINK ABOUT IT!

Whatever logic one gives, violence is not acceptable. Killing innocent people has become hobby for almost all terror groups working in any part of the world. We Indians are experiencing the same fate since past three decades and yes we are facing it bravely without keeping our heads down. I am shocked to see the picture of the child lying pool of blood. Its horrible and you said that killers were celebrating? How can they celebrate after killing innocent people.

Several International conflicts are taking ugly turn now and people living in buffer zones are becoming the worst victim of either terror groups or of army serving in the region. people are not even safe in the hand of army. Its disgusting...

The attack on Jewish religious college and the killing of eight innocent people by a Palestinian terrorist would definitely derail the peace talks. It was the worst attack in past two years in Jerusalem.

Killing of students in religious schools?? What kind of battle is this? This is the beginning of the end of humanity.

Just read statement of a witness of the attack - 'When we got in... we saw young, 15-, 16-year-old guys lying on the floor with their Bibles in their hands - all dead on the floor' - its so horrible.

people who are celebrating after killing students in religious schools are not only the enemies of Israel, but the enemies of peace and humanity also. God would punish them.

I am not supporting the killings but people should go through the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict once to know what Israeli forces have done in past.

Shira,

You need not worry. This is as balanced an article as one can write. It might have come from a Palestinian itself question her own people’s mentalities who are presumably looking for a lasting peace in the region.

This is a hideous crime committed against innocents and must be condemned by one and all. I have a feeling that the Palestinian population has lost their minds completely and have turned permanently insane seeing violence and hardships all their lives.

People from both the sides have lost human sensibilities and thus the cold blooded murder of these innocent people was celebrated by the ’enemy’.

What kind of war is this? Even in wars, fighting sides follow conventions not to target civilian populations, hospitals and not harm prisoners of war. This is no war. This is pure terrorism. An act of murder carried out by a psychotic killer who has no cause.

When Israeli bombers bomb Palestinian refugee camps killing women and children indiscriminately aren't they doing the same thing?

I can feel the same being from a country that has been victim of terrorism for the last 3 decades. Terrorism has no place in humanity.

Now Israel will use brute force against the Palestinians... this tragedy will continue. Israel must take the initiative now to make sure that this vicious cycle is broken and not go all guns blazing against the Palestinians. They must try to bring the particular gunman to justice or the group he belongs to sparing general Palestinians.
